Karen Tetrault
I am an artist educator and Western Massachusetts native. While growing up I found myself drawing a great deal, and my parents encouraged me. I enjoyed school, and art was my favorite class. I have been a public school art teacher for 20 years now. I hold degrees from Westfield State University and University of Massachusetts and I am a member of the Pioneer Valley Photographic Artists.
Photography allows me to collect the essence of something that mattered to me as I stood in a place. My recent work is a group of images captured on public lands. From town properties to National Parks, these places are reserved for human recreation, protection of natural habitat, and preservation of cultural and historic sites. My photographs are vignettes of my experiences there.
Myself and two friends are exhibiting our work at the Northampton Center for the Arts during the month of January. We call our exhibit “Trine”. A trine is a group comprised of three parts, indicating harmony, momentum, and ease of expression. We are a group of three artist educators who have been working together for over a decade. Each of us has our own particular vehicle for expression. What binds us is our friendship and working relationship over the years, coupled with the support we give to each other as artists. The title of our exhibit reflects this relationship.
