Monson Arts Council Plans Body Art Show

The Monson Arts Council has announced plans to hold a show of tattoos and body art on July 4 2013, as part of the annual Summer Fest activities. It will be called “bodyARTfest”, and will take place in the Monson House of Art from 11-2, immediately following the annual 4th of July parade.

The show will include two kinds of displays of body art: living and framed. The main exhibits will be people displaying their own body art, and competing for prizes in several categories:. Best in Show ($200), Most Creative ($100), Strongest Statement ($100) and “What was I Thinking?” ($50). Anyone who wishes to put their artwork on display can do so for a $25 entry fee, and by filling out an entry form, found on the website www.monsonartscouncil.com.

The second category of display is tattoo and body art designs and photographs, which will be offered for view and sale by participating tattoo parlors and body art shops, which will reserve rooms or walls for their work. In addition, any artwork depicting body art may be entered for exhibit and sale.

The idea for a body art show has been discussed by the Monson Arts Council for several years, and is finally coming to fruition. There is a lively body art culture in the valley, and a growing popularity of body art among a wider segment of the population than has traditionally been the case. The Monson Arts Council feels there are many manifestations of the artistic impulse in our culture beyond those normally found in galleries.

Anyone interested in participating in the show, or in further information about the bodyARTfest, may call Reed Coles at (413)537-0245, or visit the council website www.MonsonArtsCouncil.com.

Creative Communities Exchange 2013
June 6-7, 2013 | Portland, ME

The 2013 event is produced by NEFA and local hosts: the Creative Portland Corporation, the Maine Center for Creativity, and the Greater Portland Convention and Visitors Bureau.

About CCE

The Creative Communities Exchange (CCE) is an event in which creative and cultural leaders share practical information about implementing creative economy projects and provide participants with actionable tools that can be executed to strengthen their own communities. This is a peer exchange to share successes, challenges, and lessons learned from New England creative economy projects.

The CCE features workshops describing the implementation of creative economy projects from around New England, focusing on various elements of the creative economy: downtown revitalization, artist and small business professional development, impact data collection, planning, zoning, space development, marketing, and more.

Several months before the event, presenters submit project descriptions, finalists are selected, and the presentations are reviewed. At the event, workshops are strictly timed and include a how-to presentation, Q&A, and networking time. Presenters prepare a practical handout for the audience to take away.

Participants are creative and cultural community leaders who work on creative economy projects in various sectors and types of organizations including cultural nonprofits, creative businesses, economic development, city planning, funders, researchers, and government.

Hi Nancy,
I was talking to Cindy Nothe today and the Quaboag Hills Photography Club became an interesting conversation. May I get more information on membership fees, events, and anything else you have at the present time.
Thank you much, Lynn

Hello Lynn, The club is open to everyone. We meet on the second Saturday for a photo walk and on the fourth Tuesday for photo viewing and critique. The details are on the Facebook page
We also have a social network site which can be reached by going from the Facebook page. So far we have not settled on dues but to cover expenses we will likely have a small dues, it will depend upon the group and how many we are and what direction we wish to go in.
